Camping is for everyone, but if you are willing and able to put in a bit more effort, the reward for nabbing a walk-in site at campgrounds that have them is worth it.
They are usually not that far from parking or gear drop off locations, but you get added privacy and are further away from the hustle and bustle of the drive-in and RV sites. Sometimes it can feel like you have the place all to yourselves - it's a nice compromise between tent camping and backpacking if you're not quite ready for dispersed camping.
Some favorite campgrounds that offer walk-in sites:
-Acorn Woman Lakes, Oregon: Far apart sites all along a quiet lakeshore.
-Huckleberry Camp, Big Basins SP, CA: Sites 52-58 have nice privacy from the rest of the camp
-Salmon Creek, Tahoe Nat'l Forest, CA: Sites 19-21 are walk-in
-Wrights Lake, CA: Sites 41-44, 50-54 are walk-in
-Treebones Resort, Big Sur, CA: Get to experience Treebones resort for less cash- access the amenities of the resort AND get an ocean view campsite!
