I don’t even know how to explain this absolute delight of a show. Absurd premise: What if an aristocrat decides to run away and become a pirate? One that tells the crew bedtime stories and pays a fair wage and has a dedicated rec room on his ship?
Stede and his crew (who still are debating whether or not to mutiny and kill him, because, pirates) catch the interest of Blackbeard while also inadvertently earning the wrath of the British Navy when he accidentally kills an officer. Thus begins an unlikely friendship (and possibly more…?) between Stede and Blackbeard.
This show’s queer representation reminded me of Schitt’s Creek in that queer & NB characters are largely just part of the world with (mostly) no bigotry. And the pirate characters themselves are hilariously unhinged, along with some great supporting and guest actors (Leslie Jones, Fred Armison, Nick Kroll, Kristen Schaal, Will Arnett, Tim Heidecker!)
